San Francisco vs. New York sensitivities
Jack Kemp
Nancy Pelosi wants an investigation of the all people opposed to the Ground Zero mosque. You can hear her call for this at an audio link within this blog post at American Thinker: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/08/nancy_pelosi_calls_for_investi.html
San Francisco based Pelosi, by injecting herself into the controversy, raises a comparison of hurting local citizen sensibilities in San Francisco vs. those in New York.
In September of 2005, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to not allow the USS Iowa to be berthed as a tourist attraction in their city because of gays anger at the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. Liberals didn't ask gays to show their tolerance and understanding of different viewpoints, etc. At the time, I also noted that: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2005/09/stupid_san_francisco_tricks.html
"The USS Iowa first saw action patrolling Newfoundland waters in 1943 and sailing off the coast of Norway, protecting against Nazi battleships. It later saw much action in the Pacific War against the Japanese.
While my cursory internet search showed no persecution of gays by the Japanese, it is common knowledge that the Nazis outlawed homosexuals and even sent them to concentration camps with a pink triangle sown on their uniforms. Richard Gere even once portrayed such a gay in the Broadway play "Bent." All this was done while some of the leading Nazis themselves were secretly or openly gay.
So the USS Iowa was, without exaggeration, fighting and risking the lives of its sailors to defeat a regime which imprisoned people for being homosexuals, male and female alike. Perhaps the San Francisco activists should consider what would have happened to them had the Iowa not been successful in its wartime efforts. To put it quite bluntly, they could be lampshades today."
END OF QUOTE
The USS Iowa did not kill any gays or bombard any gay festival or favored beach site with artillery shells, killing 3000 people. Yet the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to not have the USS Iowa because it would hurt gay people's sensibilities in 2005. Now Nancy Pelosi, in remarks worthy of the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland, calls for an investigation of people who oppose the mosque at Ground Zero in New York. This includes this website, the Tea Party movement, the surviving family members of those killed on 9/11 and maybe even Harry Reid. In an attitude bordering on madness, Pelosi wants those who lost loved ones - and others - to show more sensitivity - and shut up.
So we are supposed to be hypersensitive to gays in San Francisco and totally indifferent to the sensitivities of others (perhaps including some gays) at Ground Zero in New York, as long as it fits in with liberal political objectives. Nancy Pelosi resembles a tin pot dictator in a banana republic - and hopefully her days as Speaker are soon over.
To all those who thought maybe Republicans and others should show "tolerance" by not opposing this mosque, this is your answer from - to borrow a phrase - "the Taliban wing" of the Democratic Party. The original Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland was fond of saying "off with their head," just like the Taliban
