  An Epiphany at Ground Zero

By Bill Miller

New York City, West Broadway and Park, Aug 22nd 2010.Between torrents of on and off again rain, while assisting our own Jeff Bruzzo with live streaming and filming of the event yesterday (on Project Shining City), over the shouts of those opposed to building the mosque and the lesser din of the mosque’s supporters, I had an epiphany.

Every poll shows that nearly seven out of ten Americans are opposed to the mosque being built at this site. Many of the same polls show a similar amount of Americans understanding that those who want to build the mosque have every legal right to do so. Ironically enough most polls show that better then seven out of ten Americans have considered their spiritual well being to be just as important as their material.

The epiphany is this; those who have not or do not nurture their spiritual nature can not comprehend what the rest of us "feel" about this situation.

Obviously, there is a cross over on the legal issue, since some who oppose the mosque do not wish to recognize the legality, through their frustration, and since the proponents and their supporters entire argument is based on the law.

Another irony is the proponents of the mosque would also be inclusive in the group of Americans who consider their spiritual well being to be as important as the material. So who are these other Americans including our President, Mayor Bloomberg and Nancy Pelosi, who just don’t get it? They are the secularists, they can’t comprehend restraint, they do not understand just because something is legal doesn’t mean it should be done. Our president for example spent 20 years in a church whose minister’s preached of Afro-centric and communal salvation. Neither ideal is compatible with Natural Law and the individual’s relationship with Providence, a concept on which our government was founded. Since he’s been president, Obama has been so far from spiritual that many doubt not only his "Christianity" but even if he believes in God. Pelosi and Bloomberg are clearly secular progressives.

We, understand that after this uproar, this mosque could never be a bridge to understanding; it could be a bridge to further heart ache and maybe even bloodshed and death, if it’s proponents insist on building it. Supported by those whose concern is legality (their substitute for faith) it will prove there can be no understanding between the supporters of the centralists (both religious centralists and secular) on the one hand, and those who believe that their most natural and eternal tie is in their personal relationship with God, Natural Law. Natural Law is having a fundamental morality, respect and restraint, because part of one’s self actualization process is to help others, a concept beyond those who believe that any central authority can replace the individual’s right and duty to accomplish this.

This is why the Secular Progressives side with the Islamists, both believes in the communal rather than the individual; this is an alien ideal, and is not American.
