Jobs, JOBS, JOBS - Nuts, NUTS, NUTS - or the Job-Corpse

by Paul Szemanczky

Even the most arrogant of all modern dictators would have impatiently torn off the 'masks of deceit' of President Obama by now, could they only encounter him. Adolf Hitler examining present American society, subsequent to the $862 billion federal stimulus package, would have shaken him like a wet-rag and demanded: "Where are the jobs, JOBS, JOBS?" The Nazi chancellor would have tossed out Obama's lifeless and immature progressive ideology as worthless, and with good reason told him: "Truly we must question your policies as well as your motives (i.e. stinks like a herring), Herr Obama."

The truth is anyone with a 3rd world country's dictator's intelligence would have concluded that Obama's wasteful 13 months of leadership and his blind and cynical obstruction of bipartisanship in Congress is guilty of the very "nihilistic malice" that may lead us into a second global economic meltdown. Obama's planned $30 billion bail-out, or the second stimulus package referred to by Capital Hill as the Jobs bill, is too little too late, and like Geitner's lies this week to Congress at hearings concerning positive 4th quarter growth (2009), it tries to hide the growing 4,000,000+ real jobs lost since Obama became president.

Obama-Geitner-Axelrod continue to be bound by the 'mythological people they serve' to an illegitimate policy which they want: Healthcare - Drastic intimidation (i.e. floods of bad news: rising debt levels in European nations; skidding major indexes; loss of 5 US Federal Reserve programs that provided liquidity to the financial system; strong hints of (Weimar-like) hyperinflationary spirals in our debt-ridden dollar) - More secret, miserable Healthcare - all of which is adding to the global market selloff that began last week. One analyst on Fox News (2/6/10) said the president's bottom line is really the huge trade deficit in the US which he "hasn't any real notion how to create the $800 billion in exports he so desperately needs." Real recovery of the economy is an illusion, especially for Geitner. The GDP being UP is merely a statistical quirk based on blatant manipulation of the numbers by the White House, like the phony numbers of jobs 'created' by the first stimulus. The stock market has gone up (the March rally) because the central banks throughout the world have pumped massive amounts of liquidity into the financial system, but now that liquidity is slowing and deeper underlying problems are surfacing - like a 'Jobs-corpse' tossed on the snowy front yard of the White House.

Like a corpse on the White House lawn, even in a snowy blizzard, the economic problems of NO JOBS persists. In spite of the desperate shoveling to bury the thing by the White House officials in an effort to hide the Jobs-corpse we have Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC) resurrected: "The evil implanted in man by nature spreads so imperceptibly, when the habit of wrong-doing is unchecked, that he himself can set no limit to his shamelessness." Charles Krauthammer, our modern-day equivalent statesman to the Roman, would conclude it is all part of the "liberal conceit," that they always believe they act in the public's interest, "that their idea of the public good is the public's, that their failure is therefore the nation's." Hence the deliberate process of trying to bury the Jobs-corpse on its snowy bier goes on and on by the 3 major Democrat leaders. These men would like to raise 'Lazarus' from the cave of darkness they created around him but for 13 months now the Jobs-corpse has grown moldy and their magic-chanting appears tiresome.

CNN Money's Dean Baker reports that 14.8 million unemployed Americans have been jobless for an average of 30 weeks. Obama gathered "Some Hope" and salvation in words recently (2/5/10) when the latest unemployment rate reduction for January 2010 was lowered to 9.7%. But James Rosen of Fox News clarified that figure by declaring 1,000,000 more unemployed gave up actively seeking work out of frustration. There is no incentive to hire when employers see increased costs, regulations, taxes and no tax credits, and business revenue declines for at least several more quarters...if we hold up our torch of vision through this blinding snow storm, that is what we will see! Some economists also believe the unemployment rate fell to 9.7% from 10% because the Labor Department dramatically underestimated the number of businesses that were closing due to the recession. Of the 480,000 first-time filed unemployment claims for the week of 2/4/10, how many of these were from people whose business went bankrupt? Any wonder that the number of discouraged workers unable to find decent employment is up by 50% since Obama took over.

On what would have been Reagan’s 99th birthday we have a major snowstorm chasing the legislators symbolically off Capital Hill, somewhat delaying the $30 billion 2nd stimulus package bill and the $1.9 trillion House bill that is going to raise the federal debt limit. The president who created the longest and greatest economic expansion of job growth in America's history isn't sadly around to see the snow falling on the Jobs-corpse left behind by the fleeing Congressmen. But they will come back of course to finish the job, but my guess is they won't have the luck of Hitler in decreasing the unemployment rate, who in his first year in office (1933-1934) put 2.25 million Germans back to work and raised their standard of living quite measurably and satisfactorily. By 1937 German unemployment had fallen from 6,000,000 to 1,000,000. That was some achievement when we remember that Germany had 30% unemployment in 1932. He raised productivity with various National Labor Services that gave men jobs in public works programs, at the expense of women and Jews who were driven out of jobs and replaced by men. Like President Obama, Hitler more decreased the unemployment 'figures' than actually decreasing unemployment. But average wages earned in 1936 were 35 times the meager government issued dole in 1932. He developed a strong military as everyone knows in this time that grew from 100,000 to 1.4 million by 1939 spending 46 billion marks to equip it. In 6 years he'd grown his nation into a competitive menace but due to gigantic debt-spending it stood on the brink in 1939 of utter financial collapse. However to Hitler, and to us, his purpose by that point was clear. World expansion, take-over of other nations, and resettlement by confiscation through war: It would seem the Hitlerian economic model is not the one for Obama to review after all.

Perhaps in Spain, Greece, and Portugal - nations that are piling up over-heated debt and raising the specter of inflation - their own Job-corpses are lying on the lawns of the presidential palaces while a steady snowfall increasingly tries to blanket both the breathe and the stench of the deepening international problem. Those nations of the world suffering in this global trade weakness all probably want programs for peaceful development of self-sufficient economies. None, we hope, are involved in preparations for war, but all are dependent on the laws of the free world market where trade and currency competition make for strange bed-fellows. Yet how many of these same countries, including the US, are about to reach the limits of their economic capabilities? It hardly seems possible national expansionist plans and philosophy may lie beneath the new fallen snow that lies on the breathe and stench of these corpses. But one never knows what lies in the 'intuition' of inflationary-bent nations, especially if and when the Job-corpses keep piling up, higher and higher.
